More About 2011 Audi R8 GT

The wait is finally over for those of us desperate for news of Audi's latest supercar project. The company have at last released technical details and images of the new V10 brute and it sure looks set to rock the roads. Overall, the car will be lighter than a standard R8 V10 by around 100kg thanks to some ingenious work on the body at Audi R&D. This includes thinner windshield glass, rear polycarbonate windows, a fixed rear wing and carbonfibre reinforced rear bumper, hatch and sideblades. Anywhere some weight could be shaved off it has been, even going as far as the carpets which now weigh some 8kg less thanks to being substantially thinner.

The Audi R8 GT features the Quattro's all-wheel drive system with a power distribution of 15/85 front/rear. The car produces more downforce than its predecessor but will likely still have a tendency to slip and slide in the rear thanks to upping the power output of its 5.2 litre V10 engine to a whopping 560BHP. This car sure won't be left standing as the monster of an engine can propel the R8 GT to 62mph in just 3.6 seconds and the power doesn't let up until it reaches its top speed of just under 200mph. The R8 GT also comes with 19in forged alloy wheels and carbon ceramic brakes as standard, and can be fitted with 4-point seatbelts and a roll cage, kill switch and fire extinguisher as part of a race package offered by Audi for the car.

The main differences of the new Audi R8 GT are less weight and more power. The 2011 GT is designed for speed and is going to be a serious contender on the racing circuit. Undoubtedly many people will be dying to get their hands on one for the road too; let's face it, who wouldn't want to be seen driving one of these sleek and sexy supercars? Those that have the necessary 193,000 Euros will certainly gain tons of enjoyment from the thrill of driving the 2011 Audi R8 GT, whether they race it or not.
